Nursery plant liners are young plants that have been grown to a size and level of root development that allows them to thrive when transplanted into larger containers. These liners are essential for successful growth in a new environment, making them a critical part of the plant liners wholesale market.

In contrast, containers are typically the final growing stage, where the nursery liners are transferred for further growth before being sold to end customers. For more information, visit our Magnolia Gardens division to explore container options.

The initial growth stage of nursery plant liners, especially those from tissue culture, requires meticulous care. The most crucial period is the acclimation phase, which occurs right after the young plants are removed from the lab and introduced to the greenhouse.

We grow our nursery plant liners in specially designed greenhouse structures that provide optimal environmental conditions. These greenhouses offer protection against extreme weather, including harsh sunlight, heat, and cold.

Our greenhouses are equipped with ventilation systems, such as fans and retractable roofs and walls, to regulate temperature and airflow. This controlled environment is essential in the production of high-quality nursery liners that meet the standards of the plant liners wholesale industry.

Quality control is critical in ensuring that our nursery plant liners meet the highest standards. We monitor various parameters, including pest activity, pH levels, electrical conductivity (EC), root development, and overall plant size.

These checks are crucial in maintaining the health and viability of our nursery liners, ensuring they are ready for the next stage of growth or for sale in the nursery liners wholesale market.

Frequently asked questions about nursery plants

How do you monitor and manage pests or diseases in the nursery plants?

At MGN Liners, we employ a comprehensive approach to pest and disease management to protect our nursery plant liners. A dedicated pest control team scouts for pests and diseases, but all team members are trained to report any issues.

We use monitor sticky cards to trap and identify flying insects. Additionally, we conduct weekly greenhouse walks and Quality Assurance Inspections (QAI) to monitor the health of our nursery liners. These activities help us maintain the quality required for plant liners wholesale.

How do you adjust your cultivation schedule of nursery plants to meet seasonal demands?

We use a detailed plant recipe catalog to define growing times for various crops and seasons, which guides our production schedules. Monthly S&OP (Sales and Operations) meetings help us identify and address any gaps in production or growing times.

Although 80% of our nursery plant liners are grown to order, we also maintain a “spec” production to meet additional demands. This strategic approach ensures we can adjust our plan to meet seasonal demands and maintain a steady supply of high-quality nursery liners for wholesale.

Is there a pricing structure available for wholesale orders of nursery plants?

Our pricing structure for nursery liners wholesale orders includes the liner price, any applicable royalty fees, and the costs associated with shipping and packaging. This transparent pricing ensures that our customers receive high-quality nursery plant liners at competitive rates.

Do all your young plants come from tissue culture?

The majority of our nursery plant liners, over 90%, are produced in our own tissue culture lab, ensuring consistency and quality.

A small portion (approximately 5%) of our young plants comes from outsourced labs outside the USA. Occasionally, we offer traditionally propagated liners from cuttings or divisions.

Currently, only one of our products is propagated by seed. This focus on tissue culture helps us maintain the high standards expected in the nursery liners wholesale market.

Why should I buy a liner or a container?

Most of our grower clients are in the business of buying liners and transplanting to a container that would be sold at a higher price. A few nurseries broker plant material and therefore buy plant material to resell. Buying a 1 gallon container or larger to shift is normally not done due to the high cost of shipping larger plants.
