Nandina domestica is a resilient shrub native to Asia that has been widely adopted in many homes and commercial landscapes in hardiness zones 6-10. It can be planted under partial shade or full sun and once established can tolerate dry and moist soils. Besides its versatility and resilience, Nandina domestica are also available in a wide range of foliage colors and some varieties change the color of their leaves depending on the time of the year.

Growers normally sell Nandina domestica in 1 and 3 gallon pots. Most growers leave some 1 gallon as shifters to later move into 3 gallon pots but is not unlikely to find growers that would direct stick a 72 liner in a 3 gallon pot to mainly avoid additional labor cost. We have found that direct sticking 3 72 liner plugs in a 3 gallon pot would improve the overall quality of the finish product, reduce grow times, and increase the profitability of the growing area.

Nandinas are an easy plant to grow when started in the right time of the year and with high quality liners. Download and follow our growing protocol for a successful and profitable harvest.

We are well known nationwide for Nandina domestica because we have been growing them in our lab and greenhouses since the late 1970’s, hold several patents, and are the largest Nandina liner grower in the USA.

In our catalog you will find a wide selection of Nandina domestica varieties that vary in foliage color and growing habits. Most of our nandinas are sterile and therefore do not bear fruit or are invasive plants.
