Nandina domestica ‘Filamentosa’ (San Gabriel) Nandina

The Nandina species is from China and Japan. It is in the Barberry family even though it is called Heavenly Bamboo and grows in clumps with a bamboo like habit. Filamentosa is a Nandina that has a unique mounding habit with very lacy, deeply cut leaves. The foliage is a bright green color in the spring and will turn a red/purple color in the fall and winter. This Nandina is a dwarf and will grow 3-4 feet tall and 2-3 feet in width. Nandina domestica ‘Filamentosa’ is a very unusual plant and one that can be used as a specimen plant or conversation plant. It is well adapted to rock garden landscaping, around reflecting pools, and in mass plantings.
